The Revolutionary Force of Facebook and Twitter

Authors Thesis:

New social medias like Facebook and Twitter are replacing Arabian journalist and the Arabian cultural ways of social commentary.

Statement of understanding:

Throughout the Arabian region social networking is known to be a new technology of communication. Facebook and Twitter are the new main social media sources that are being introduced into the region. Before social medias like Facebook and Twitter were brought into the Arab region; Web forums were used as the main sources of society commentary. The main forums that were used in the Arabian area were the Yabiladi, Bladi, and other Moroccan forums. The Arab region is so far behind in social networking that the Moroccan blogosphere is still considered a new source of social networking.

Morocco is a parliamentary monarchy with democratic norms to some degree, depending on the situation. In other words Morocco’s government is very similar to the U.S government. Morocco’s press is considered to be one of the freer presses in the region. They do have some restrictions they can’t pass though; For example, some topics they cannot write about are their king and the Western Sahara. If any reporter or journalist proceeds to write on these topics they put themselves at a high risk of losing their jobs and much more.

The Arabian landscape is divided between the lacking of tradition and interest in the American concept of reporting that is based on true facts. Some journalists are ordered to exaggerate the truth on political and civil stories to keep from outrageous outburst from the community. Most of the political media will leave out major details in their stories leaving huge gaps to be filled. Facebook and Twitter are the new social medias that help the community talk about what is being left out in those gaps.
