Each level of measurement will have a different modeling type than another. For example, nominal scales will provide information for subjects with no specific order. These will include characteristics of a person, names, towns people live in, etc. Ordinal scales provide rankings such as class ranks, social class, or the order of finish in a race. Ratio scales are usually counts of a given amount of time or a number such as time to complete a task or the number of errors made in a specified time period.

2. For each of the variables below give the level of measurement and the modeling type.

• Weight (in pounds)-Ratio

• Alma Mater- Nominal

• Temperature (°F)- Interval scale

• Class level (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.)-Ordinal

• Number of credit hours-Ratio

3. Go through the 5 Why’s process with the following problem statement:

For each why give a reasonable response to the why. After the 5th why give a workable solution.

Why: I do not pass my tests.
