Luis Gerardo Saldivar

Born July 12, 1967 in Leon Guanajuato Mexico, Luis grew up to want a better life for himself and his future family. In 1989, Luis illegally at nineteen years old migrated to America his first stop would be Texas. He would travel in a bus with two strangers he knew nothing of, but had to go with them to make it to Chicago. His second stop would be Chicago, and this is where he would encounter that the weather is not the same as it is in Mexico. Luis describes himself being very scared through all this process. Luis had family in Wisconsin so he would live with them for three years. He moved in with an uncle he had never seen or heard of. For those three years that he lived with his uncle he would attend school at MATC to learn English, and would work in a laundry company. He told me that every week he would receive his check, and that his uncle would take his check away from him. His uncle would lie to Luis saying that he was sending the money to his parents in Mexico. In reality they would use it for their own expense.

After three years off this he decided to move out. He knew how to speak English better and could write better. Luis found a new job in another factory called Custom Cuts. He would work there for five years. After noticing that the factory would not let him proceed to be a supervisor or a crew leader, he knew he had to look for another job to obtain more money. Fortunately he would come across a lady who would tell him about opportunities in this other factory named Patrick Cudahy, so he did apply and got the job.

By 1999 He officially started to work in Patrick Cudahy. Five hard working years he worked in this factory, and finally got promoted to Crew Leader this was one of his first steps as being a leader in his work environment. In 2004 he was Crew Leader, but three years after that he was promoted once again to Supervisor. Ever since then he has lead a team of twenty two,...
