“Like Heck You Are”

“Like heck you are” is considered to be a figure of speech meaning that whatever is been said will not take place. This is a term a great deal of people use when there is doubt in the statement that is being stated. In this particular story Norma Jean, who is the wife of Leroy, a disable trucker, was very doubtful that her husband was going to build her a log cabin home. Norma Jean did not believe her husband so instead of calling him a liar she said “Like heck you are.”

This term can also be considered as slang language, which is language that has non-standard words and phrases, based on the dictionary. These words and phrases are used to get your point made in a different way. A way that may be said in a less threating and softer way and still get the correct meaning.

Leroy had been out of work for about three months after the accident he was in that affected Leroy physically and emotional. Leroy leg was hurt in the accident but by now his leg was almost healed, but Leroy was still freighted from the accident and Leroy did not drive his big rig truck any more. His big rig was in their back yard as a reminder of how his life used to be so fulfilled.

Because of having so much time on his hand Leroy begins building miniature log cabins made from Popsicle sticks. Leroy would varnish the miniature log cabins and place the log cabins on TV set. Leroy also tried string art, and a variety of other kits Leroy would order in the mail and try to make things.

Leroy begins to fantasize on building a real log cabin for himself and his wife Norma Jean. Ever since they were married Leroy has promised Norma Jean that he would one day build her a new house. They have always rented their houses and the current house was very small...
