THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

1.1. Introduction

In modern technology, cellphone is considered as one of the basic necessities in our daily life, because it communicates and connecting people by getting touch from one place to another. Now a day, cellphone evolved and well developed. It is not only for texting and calling, you can able to access now in an internet through this handset mobile phone. You can browse, surf, send e-mails, play online games, and log-in to your favourite social network site. That is why, many of us addicted on this device.

Cellphone addiction is one of the main problem that our country facing right now. According to Dictionary.com, “An addiction is the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, such as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma”.

Addiction is also when a person becomes dependent on something and feels like they can’t go without it. Same with the person who addicted in cellphone, they cannot go without the said device. They always want that their cellphone often in their side wherever they go and whatever they do.

In our generation now, even simple people can have their own cellphone because there’s a lot of affordable mobile phone can buy. And even students can have it now. Cellphone is important to us, but it leads in addiction most especially for those students using this device uncontrolled. It affects their academic performance such having higher anxiety and out of focus in their study that leads in getting lower grades.
