Fall 2015
First, there is a short story !!!
Once upon a time…
Long ago, almost all of
our energy came from
food (delivering muscle
power), and almost all
our energy went into
securing food for
ourselves
Dr
Work animal,
supplementing our
muscle power and
enabling larger‐
scale agriculture
Next burn

boilers,
trains
Fall 2015
Today, more energy goes
into growing / harvesting
food than comes out of
food!
150 years ago, muscular
effort and firewood
provided most of our
energy.
