The purpose of information systems is to provide the right information to the right people at the right time. An information system also is the means by which data is collected, process, stored, and implement the use of data. The paper will explore three of these departments and a software application for each that could enable those said departments to perform better.

Human resources (HR) are a vital part of any business. HR is the people part of any workplace or business and represents a substantial percentage of the business. Without proper guidance for employees, a business cannot succeed. One type of software used by HR managers to perform duties better would be the Human Resource Information System. This system helps manage employee attendance, scheduling, job performance issues, and various others. An effective HRIS provides information on anything the company needs to track and analyze about employees. The company will need to select a HRIS and customize it to meet there needs.

Any businesses that expect to be successful need an effective accounting department. The functions of an accounting department include receipt of money, paying bills, payroll, tracking assets, and financial reporting. Quicken software is one of the most recognizable software for small business owners. The software allows the business owner to manage profits and losses as well as forecast potential income.

Marketing is a valuable tool in the business world. The use of marketing is what business use to bring customers in the door, convinces them to buy goods or services, and keeps them coming back.
