I attended the IT security film at Texas State University in LBJ 3-14.1. The documentary discusses how user fail to read various corporations terms and conditions along with their privacy. This leaves user unaware of how their information is being shared with various third parties.
I learned many different things through the course of the film that have changed my perspective on reading terms and condition. It is currently cyber security month in the US and the message was “think before you click”. The majority of individuals accept the terms and conditions without reading them and terms and conditions do apply. Let’s be honest nobody really wants to take it upon themselves to read the small written long terms and conditions we all simply scroll down and check them. That’s exactly why they make it so long and in such small font so people will just avoid it and check boxes. Instagram apparently has the right to sell posted photos for sales and advertisement purposes, I was never aware of this phenomenon until now and have had an Instagram for 5 years. Facebook has it default settings set for everyone to see and not just your friends. We get comfortable with the default settings and when they change them that’s when problems arise. Facebook authorized this change on 350 million people, this was a big deal, Facebook turned what was once private info to public info overnight. Facebook changed the game by sharing all information by 2009. An example of information sharing was when a father thought her daughter was being sent advertisements to encourage sex but her daughter was actually pregnant, target new before her father. Her daughter had been looking at baby cloths, cribs, etc. online and was sent coupons from target for baby items. Another thing was the FBI was surprised so many people would post so much personal information online making it easier for them because people are posting personal email addresses, phone #, best...
