Leila is a 45-year-old woman who lives with her husband and son on a farm in the country. Leila enjoys cooking and tending to the chicken house. Leila was recently hospitalized for falling off a horse. Leila sustained injury to the left side of her body and a concussion which has left her with weak endurance, poor planning, and compromised fine motor skill.
Prior occupations: Leila previously did all the cooking for the family as well as tended to the 25 chickens who live on the farm. Leila collects eggs every morning from the coop, sorts them by size, and then uses six eggs to cook breakfast for her family. This activity analysis will focus on cooking scrambled eggs.
Activity Analysis
Name of Activity: Making Scrambled Eggs
Equipment: Six eggs, butter, milk, frying pan, spatula, large bowl, fork, three plates, salt & Pepper, measuring cups, cutlery
Steps to activity:
1. Get equipment ready
2. Set table with forks, knives, salt, and pepper
3. Stand (or sit) at table
4. Crack six eggs into large bowl
5. Add ΒΌ cup of milk
6. Whisk eggs together with fork
7. Heat butter in frying pan on medium heat on stove
8. Pour whisked eggs into frying pan
9. Use spatula to move eggs around in the pan so that they cook evenly
10. When eggs are finished cooking turn off heat
11. Line up 3 plates
12. Evenly serve eggs onto three plates
13. Bring three plates to the table
14. Call family for breakfast
15. Allow family to apply their own salt and pepper
16. Eat and enjoy
Required actions: Use of hand eye coordination to crack six eggs. Fine motor movement to gently crack eggs so shell does not get into the eggs. Grasping materials. Bilateral hand coordination. Standing endurance. Using sight to measure ingredients.
Cognitive: Sequencing to do steps in order. Problem solving with measurements, cooking time, and serving.
Sensory: Using sight and smell to determine cooking time for eggs. Tasting eggs to determine how much salt and pepper to add.
