Careers are all categorized by specialty and craft. Each career is placed under a specific category such as health careers or law enforcement careers. A Forensic Scientist falls under both of these careers and mixes characteristics from each to make a career that is hands on, intricate, and overall satisfying. According to the Career Library data base, “Forensic scientists investigate crimes by collecting and analyzing physical evidence using a variety of scientific, mathematical and problem-solving methods and instruments.” The evidence that they gather is used in a court during a trial or case. They often have to give a statement or testimony in the court to explain their conclusions after analyzing the evidence. Forensic science dates back to the seven hundreds. The Chinese would use fingerprints to obtain the identity of documents. According to the Division of state police in New York, in 1248 the Chinese published a book that described how to distinguish drowning from strangulation. This was the first recorded application of medical knowledge to a crime. As the years passed the field grew and became more detailed and specific. Today it is a very important part of our criminal justice system and we depend on these scientists to help solve murders more than ever before.

The general job of a Forensic technician is to help investigate crimes by collecting and analyzing physical data. In this field you can specialize in crime scene investigation or laboratory analysis. The most popular one amongst college students is the crime scene investigation because it is tied to the criminal justice aspect of the career.
