Information Systems and Software Applications

Information systems and software applications are an integral part of all the various organizational departments within a company. I believe that three of the most important organizational departments within a company that should be using various forms of information systems and software applications are the human resource department, the finance department, and the accounting department.

Human Resource and Information Systems and Software Applications

Information Technology not only provides the means for the human resource department to make a huge contribution to the company and its daily operations, but also enables managers to understand the human resource process better and to become more involved in human resource activities. The role of the human resource department consists mainly of tracking existing employee data which traditionally includes personal histories, skills, capabilities, accomplishments and salary. To reduce the manual workload of these administrative activities, organizations began to electronically automate many of these processes by introducing specialized Human Resource Management Systems. Take for instance what Cray Research Inc. from Eagan, MN. accomplished. Cray Research Inc. realized that they needed a system that would cut the amount of time it took them to hire a qualified candidate while also improving applicant response. The system that they chose has allowed the company to centralize the resume processing and provides the information to make better hiring choices from a larger, consolidated candidate pool.(Romei, L.)
