Compare your story to one of the stories we read in our literature book.

The two stories that I will be comparing are How Bear Lost His Tail and Coyote and the Buffalo. Three similarities that I will talk about in greater detail are they both are centralized on explaining how some happened, contain two main characters who are animal people, and they are both trickster tails. In both stories they explain how something happened. In the Coyote and the Buffalo they explain how there are no buffalo in the Swah-netk’-qhu country and in How Bear Lost His Tail they explain how the bear loses his tail. Their characters are both animal people in the sense that they were believed to be the ‘first people’ before actual civilization was developed. They are both in the genre of trickster tales because they feature animal people who are deceitful but have a purpose to their stories.

2. Contrast your story to one of the stories we read in our literature book.

The two stories that I will be contrasting are How Bear Lost His Tail and The Way to Rainy Mountain. They are different because they have different writing styles. In The Way to Rainy Mountain there is a very descriptive sense of writing and written in first person and tells a story of someones life. How Bear Lost His Tail is written in more of a story dialogue and doesn't concentrate as much on details. They are set in different time periods as well. How Bear Lost His Tail is in the time period of animal people and The Man to send Rain Clouds is a more modern setting in the fact that it talks about Indian life in the ninteenth century. They also have different themes. In the story The Way to Rainy Mountain the theme is to tell the background of the Kiowas and his grandmas history with the the tribe. In How Bear Lost His Tail it tells about how the bear lost his tail but doesn't explain the history of the tribe the story originated from exactly.
