Introduction
In the Romans 8, when addressing the importance of the Holy Spirit, we are taught that it is impossible to live the Christian life without sanctification through the Holy Spirit. The first step in the sanctification, is first we have to be justified by God through our faith in Jesus Christ, simply putting “justification before sanctification.” Paul teaches us that the gift of the Holy Spirit is the most important part in our sanctification. In this research paper the topics that will be discussed are: the relationship between the indwelling Spirit and Christian obedience, the offerings of our bodies to God, the transformation of the believer, as well as defining the basis and means for sanctification, the assurance that one is sanctified, and the amount of time it takes for visible fruit to show in the life of the believer. In Romans 6 Paul gives us an introduction to the process of sanctification while establishing the fact that all believers are required to have sanctification. Because we are in Christ and he is in us be are to live a life free from sin. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ demands that we live life as slaves to him, not in the bondage of sin. Either sin or Christ will the master of our lives Romans (6:15-23).
Definition
Deffinbaugh, “sanctification is the activity of God which liberates the Christian from the power of sin, imparting the righteousness of God through man.” Sanctification is a continual process of God, based on the finality of justification, where as a result of daily faith the Holy Spirit is operative in the believer's life, which purifies and frees the believer for good works, operating within the community of believers— the church, where the Word and sacraments are present.
