Utile: The (director?) chose this subject to show the real status of our country. It also show how people handle these trials in life, whether to treat it as a barrier or the other way around. There are also some parts in the movie where we can relate the most. For instance, the part where Gerry questioned why he had this kind of life. Sometimes, we tend to lose hope because we don’t know how to handle the barriers in our life. However, Magnifico still doesn’t lose hope, in fact he continued to help not only his family but also the community, even though he belongs to a poor and unfortunate family.

Universal Values:

* Artistry – The film composed of symbolism, the Rubik’s cube which Gerry tried to solve, symbolizes their current status of living. Gerry’s unable to solve the Rubik’s cube symbolized his family’s inability to bring themselves out of poverty, despair and misery. After many trials Gerry could not stand it anymore and threw the Rubik’s cube out of his sight. After Magnifico’s death, Gerry discovered that Magnifico had solved the Rubik’s cube, putting everything in its proper place.

* Permanence – The film “Magnifico” was produced in 2003, which was timeless. Whenever you watch, you can still relay to it.

* Intellectual value – We cannot deny the real status of our country. In this film, the poverty in the Philippines was evidently shown.

* Emotional value – Magnifico was a heartrending film. It is about a boy who bears the problem of their family in his shoulder. As a viewer, we cannot avoid to evoke sympathy to the boy. And also it gives a great impact to us whenever we watch this film.

* Universality – The film is universal in the sense that it is applicable to anywhere. The common experiences between the viewer and the character bind us together which make us relate to it.
