1. Executive Summary

The Document is a proposal for automating the parking lot management system using Internet of Things (IOT) which would track the entry and exit of cars, maintaining a list of cars within the parking lot and determine the nearest parking slot available for the user. Recent stats show drivers searching for parking depict for more than 30% of the traffic congestion. It is pretty clear that increasing the parking lots would not be solution to address the problem of congestion. Intelligent parking system would help us to access, collect, analyze and act on information on parking usage in real-time. Increasingly, this information is provided in real-time from intelligent devices that enable both parking managers and drivers to optimize the use of parking capacity.

This document gives a description on the objective of the project, User interface, Cost estimation and the benefits of implementing this technology. Implementing this technology would have benefits like better parking information, reduced congestion and improve traffic flow, improved safety for all road users, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants.

The project will be launched with an initial phase of 5 years starting during the third quarter of 2015. The overall budget for the project is estimated to be US$ 80000.
