The film that will curiously leave you waiting in a non-so entertaining matter is the film Il Villaggio Di Cartone. This film will keep you waiting for a situation that deals with a serious issue. Il Villaggio Di Cartone, directored by Ermanno Olmi focuses around the concept of illegal African immigration as it is a well discussed topic in Italy. The film assumes that the viewers are quite aware of the problem with illegal immigrants in Italy.
This film in centered around the concept of illegal immigrants and the idea of how there can be good people helping others. This idea of good can be seen through the eyes of the Priest (Michael Lonsdale). The setting of the film takes place in an abandoned church. The setting of the church plays a huge role in the film. Not only is it the place for the refuge for the illegal African immigrants, but it also represents the idea that there are good people that are willing to help others in difficult situations. The issue such as illegal immigration is sought by many as being a very bad thing, but in the eyes of some, such as the Priest, they are all for helping.
The Priest (Michael Lonsdale) of an abandoned church tries everything in his will to try and recover the church. Through his anxiety and occurring depression he later finds himself doing what he feels is right, and initially finds that his hope for the church is seen in the presence of new life in the building. The new life in the empty church refers to the refuge for illegal African Immigrants.
Throughout the film, the Priest encounters different challenges with the church, illegal African immigrants and his own health. This old Priest struggles with the anxiety of loosing his church, and secretly hiding immigrants that throughout the movie causes him to become quiet ill, which results to multiple visits from the Medical Doctor (Massimo De Francovich).
