A.)
Preparation Of Copper (II) Nitrate From Copper Wire
Cu(s)+HNO3(l) → Cu(NO3)2(aq)+NO2(g)+H2O(l)
1 Cu(s)+ 4 HNO3(l) → 1 Cu(NO3)2(aq)+ 2 NO2(g)+ 2 H2O(l)
Procedure Data Observation
• Weigh copper wire • 0.01g/1g
• In fume hood, add HNO3 • 10 mL HNO3 • Green liquid in the bottom of the beaker and brown gas coming out
• Dissolves fast
• Swirl beaker
• Add distilled water • 10mL
B.)
Preparation Of Copper (II) Hydroxide From Copper (II) Nitrate
Cu(NO3)2(aq)+NaOH(aq) → NaNO3(aq)+Cu(OH)2(s)
1 Cu(NO3)2(aq)+ 2 NaOH(aq) → 2 NaNO3(aq)+ 1 Cu(OH)2(s)
Procedure Data Observation
• Place copper (II) nitrate in beaker containing ice
• Add NaOH to copper (II) nitrate
• Dropper, full stir • 30mL NaOH • Litmus paper turn blue
C.)
Preparation Of Copper (II) Oxide From Copper (II) Hydroxide
Cu(OH)2(s)+CuO(s) → CuO(s)+H2O(l)
Cu(OH)2(s)+ CuO(s) → CuO(s)+ H2O(l)
Procedure Data Observation
• Add distilled water • 100mL
• In fume hood, heat copper (II) hydroxide while continuously stirring • Copper (II) 0xide precipitates
• Let it settle • About 3-4 min. • Dark/grey thick/solid copper on the bottom, and water base on top
• Take the water base off
• Transfer copper (II) oxide to 600mL beaker
Error: Lost of Copper while taking excess water off
D.)
Preparation Of Copper (II) Sulfate From Copper (II) Oxide
CuO(s)+H2SO4(aq) → CuSo4(aq)+H2O(l)
1 CuO(s)+ 1 H2SO4(aq) → 1 CuSo4(aq)+ 1 H2O(l)
Procedure Data Observation
• Measure sulfuric acid into graduated cylinder • 25mL sulfuric acid
• Add sulfuric acid to copper (II) oxide • Turn blue
E.)
Preparation Of Copper (II) Phosphate from Copper (II) Sulfate
i. CuSO4(aq)+Na3PO4(aq) → Cu3(PO4)2(s)+Na2SO4(aq)
3 CuSO4(aq)+ 2 Na3PO4(aq) → 1 Cu3(PO4)2(s)+ 3 Na2SO4(aq)
ii. NaOH(aq)+H2SO4(aq) → Na2SO4(aq)+H2O(l)
2 NaOH(aq)+ 1 H2SO4(aq) → 1 Na2SO4(aq)+ 2 H2O(l)
Procedure Data Observation
• Place copper (II) sulfate...
