1. Executive Summary

The Wireless Telecom Company is a growing telecommunications company that accepted the Maximum Megahertz Project on recommendation from 6 up and coming young R&D employees about a year ago. The project’s original cost was estimated at $600.000, now an additional $800.000 and an extension of 6 months on an already 4 month behind schedule project is requested by the project manager.

Olaf Gundersen the CEO of Wireless Telecom Company feels there are already too much invested in this project, bailing from the project will not be an easy task.

Maximum Megahertz Project is not an isolated case and in the last 5 years 3 other projects never reached implementation.

When operating in a matrix organisational structure and upholding project management principles, the company will strategically benefit in terms of achieving organisational goals easier and more effectively; they will improve their internal and external customer satisfaction as a company; they will have improved processes as part of project lifecycles; they will improve their knowledge and skills with the new project management related training and overall they will achieve improved return on their investments.

Wireless Telecomm Company will be empowered with new management skills in order to comply with all the requirements of a matrix organisational structure and project management as profession.

At the end of the transformation the Wireless Company will be structured as a matrix organisation and operating effectively in that fashion, and is making business in a project management systems approach as a way of living.
