EOD (ELEMENTS OF DESIGN)

In our first year Foundation Programme of Bachelors in Design, we study various integral subjects which will prepare us for the rigorous designing study. One of them is EOD i.e. Elements of Design which is my most favourite subject out of all, taught by Kakoli Das ma’am. (Probably because I’m used to getting Redos!!)

The elements and Principles are essential to understanding, interpreting and understanding art. The elements are components or parts which can be isolated and defined in any visual design or work of art. They are the structure of the work, and can carry a wide variety of messages. . An element is one of those most basic visible things. In science, the elements re on the periodic chart (hydrogen, iron, oxygen, gold etc.). All the complex chemicals are simply combinations of these (H2O). In art, it is an element if it is visible and there is nothing more simple or basic to define it. In practice, the elements are commonly seen in combination with each other. The Elements of Design are the building blocks of art. Artists use these elements to express ideas in art just as a writer uses words to express his ideas in stories and poems. The elements of design can be thought of as the things that make up a painting, drawing, design etc. Good or bad - all paintings will contain most of it

Why elements of design?

A good art work, whether it is a painting, sculpture, interiors or a website design, all starts at a design stage. Its conception is made by the principles and elements that govern art and design. During the initial stages, there are many aspects that need to be focused upon in order to achieve the right balance. Artists manipulate elements such as line, space, texture, shape and colour and apply the principles of design to form an art. Every work has various elements of design within them which makes them complete.

Here are some reasons why I like this subject:
