Lab Report

Each answer is worth seven points.

Use a red colored font for you answers.

Place the answers below the questions.

1. In the videos you just watched where is the color code to use for the jack shown? For Cat 5e the color code is located on both sides of the jack. For Cat 6, the color code label located between the IDC connector slots.

2. For the wires how many possible termination color code methods are there? T568/T568B

3. How many wires are there in a UTP cable? 4 pairs – 8 wires

4. What colors are used on these wires? Green, blue, orange, brown, green/white, blue/white, orange/white

5. The punch down tool used to insert the wires into a jack such as this does what two things to each wire? Secures the wire into the slot and cuts the insulation on the wire, it’s to provide the connection between two cable segments.

6. What is the most critical part of the termination procedure to ensure low crosstalk on the connection? The more twists the lower the crosstalk, but it increases attenuation, propogation delay, and costs. Higer quality cables have up to 3 twists along each inch on the wire, the twist length vary from pair to pair.

7. How is the outer insulation covering each wire cut through during the termination procedure? To cut the wire you have to firmly press down using the punch tool to cut through the insulation and then the copper wire to complete termination.

8. Which termination color code method is used in this example? T568B code is used

9. In which video is the wire separation...
