Section 1: Introduction

Ahava Care is a small, family owned home care agency. The name, itself, translates to “loving care” from Hebrew to English. The company made its appearance around the city of Detroit, Michigan. It was started in early 2014 as the solution to a commonly overlooked problem in my area. This region is known for many things but loving care isn’t one of them. In fact, there’s a complete lack of “real” care in this area. That’s where the idea was born.

Within the city and the surrounding metro areas, there are more home care agencies than I could list. There are some legitimate ones, but the majority of them are just fake people looking to make a quick dollar off of real patients. The competition is fierce, especially if you take business out from under the wrong agency. To be honest, you never know who will be knocking on your door or if they’ll even bother to use the door. It isn’t just the competition you worry about, however. Vandals will do anything for a quick fix. Computer equipment, medications, anything not tied down is an easy target for someone in a bind.

Without the equipment, though, our business would surely fail. Technology plays a massive role in the success of a legitimate company. Ahava Care makes use of something called an EHR system. EHR stands for Electronic Health Records System. This is the database where all patient records are maintained. It is highly secure, as it has the ability to also prescribe medications, schedule appointments, and it contains personal information for patients and employees.
