College Essay

Well, throughout my entire time in high school I’ve had plenty of difficult things to deal with. From brutal essays to very conservative teachers, two-hundred question free-response tests, getting everyone to work together as a team on a project with a strict deadline, I’ve dealt with it all. There are plenty of situations that have taken their toll on me, but I honestly think they were for the best. I believe being in challenging positions helps bring out the best in me, build character, and learn something new.

Right now I’m working on, probably, the most difficult research project I’ve had in high school. The project is about my potential career and any controversies surrounding it. It’s hard for me because there are no major controversies in video game development. If I do find one, my teacher will argue whether it actually is a controversy or not. The project requires five different resources: book from a library, .org source, .edu source, article searched from Google Advance Search, and an Infotrac source. It also requires bibliographies with annotations for all of my sources in alphabetical order. This project is much more challenging and time consuming than anything I’ve previously done. However, I’m slowly making progress and I know in the end I will turn it in, getting a decent grade on the project while also learning something new about video game development.

Being on the high school bowling team has been an excellent experience for me. When I first joined the team in freshman year I wasn’t very good. My stance was terrible, had trouble throwing the ball down the lane, everything about me was awful. Everyone on the team gave me guidance on what I should improve and supported me even when I was feeling down. The coaches even gave me their personal bowling balls and offered to pay to get them drilled so it could fit my hand. Before joining high school bowling my average was 80, now it’s 186.
