Abstract

After thinking about this paper and coming up with a topic I have found that both Walmart and Costco are globally known companies. You can find both stores in different countries and they are expanding constantly. If so many people are shopping at these companies they need to make sure they have the employees in place to keep them running and expanding. So what company offers their employees the best benefits? After doing some research I have found the three key benefits that each company offers are the following: medical benefits, retirement benefits, and well-being benefits. This paper will go on to discuss what an employee at each company will be able to receive and then in the end which one is the better choice.

Walmart VS. Costco

The first benefit that both companies offer is medical benefits. Walmart states that they offer consumer-directed health care plans for associate employees. These consumer-directed health care plans include Health Reimbursement Accounts and Health Savings Accounts. For any employee that has health care through Walmart they are eligible to receive the following:

* 100 percent of coverage paid for in preventive care

* $4 co-pays when they use the generic prescriptions at either Walmart or Sam’s Club

* Vison plans

* Dental plan

* Counseling and health information services

* Company paid life insurance

* Disability insurance

* Sick time

Walmart has a great list of medical benefits that employees can receive if they qualify. Costco also offers any of their full time employee’s benefits after 90 days of working. If you are working for Costco and you only work part time you have to have worked there 180 days in order to receive benefits. Once an employee qualifies for benefits the employee has two different health care options to choose from. They can either have the Choice plus plan or a Freedom Choice plan.
