Big companies using cloud storage to store consumer information, are they keeping it safe enough? An article was recently released about big companies such as Target, Home Depot, Sony, and Insurance companies that are using cloud storage to hold consumer information. Now some people are stating that it is not safe to have such important information saved in a virtual storage space, because of the fact that it may be too easy to breach the security.

They have a right to be nervous about the security of the information that is stored in the cloud a recent study done in 2014 shows that there is a probability of a data breach taking place in two years involving a minimum of 10,000 records. Also with the chance that more security breaches taking place the cost to cover the damage that is done has increased over the past two years. That goes for both organizational cost of data breach and the cost for lost or stolen records have gone up from $5.4 million to $5.9 million, and the cost per lost stolen record increased from $188 to $201 it is not a big increase for lost or stolen records, but that is still a cost for a company to pay.

In the past, year there have been a few companies that are very popular today or very well known. One of the companies that had a data breach in 2014 going into the early part of 2015, is Anthem the health insurance company they had Social Security numbers, addresses, emails and names taken total number of records 80 million. Another company that was affected by data breach was Target 70 million records of consumer information that consisted of Credit card information, e-mails, and addresses. The next one that was a very popular one, and happened just before the movie the Interview came out, the company name is Sony 100+ terabytes of data that was affected that included movie information, and 6,500 employee records.
