Media Violence and its Impacts on Humans Behavior

The dispute regarding the media's relationship to violence and its consequences on humans in society has been a hot issue these days. From the start of the wide use of mass media, from radio to films to television, researchers have tried to explicate any association or correlation between media violence and its effects on humans. Of particular interest and concern has been the issue of violent behavior in the media and the impact that this has on humans (Anderson & Bushman, 2002).

Although, important research efforts have better improved our perceptive of the topic; there is still a great that needs to be done in terms of the application and implementation of the findings to rules, strategies, policies and television programming. Violence is an action that causes harm to others (Anderson & Bushman, 2002). The way to define violence varies from person to person. Some people see violence as a cause of aggressive behavior in humans and others think that there are other precursors of violence (Anderson & Bushman, 2002).

There are many arguments between media violence and its adverse affects on children and adolescents. Many studies have proved that depiction of violence in media do affect human behavior. Influences of media violence, drugs or alcohol and sex have showed great impact especially on youth. There is strong connection between delivered media message and their effect of children and adolescents (Drabman & Thomas, 1974).

There are many causes for violence in our society, and there are also many reasons for people to behave aggressively. Even though this may be true, a major cause of violence in our society is violence in the media.
