In the book “Lord of the Flies”, by William Golding, Ralph and Jack act as leaders of the group. When leaders ignore their responsibility to maintain order of their society, their actions undermine the group’s ability to function. When leaders ignore their responsibility to maintain safety, their actions undermine the group’s ability to function. When leaders ignore their responsibility to lead by example, their actions undermine the group’s ability to function. When leaders ignore their responsibilities, their actions undermine the group’s ability to function.

When leaders ignore their responsibility to maintain safety, their actions undermine the group’s ability to function. As a leader, Ralph had many tasks to attend to since he was voted the leader of the group. One of his tasks was to gather a list of the boy’s names, so that everyone was accounted for and no one went missing, so Ralph assigned this job to Piggy. Ralph relying heavily on Piggy to create the list went to look around the island before the list was finished, and this resulted in an unfinished list and one missing boy.

“And that’s not all. Them kids. The little ‘uns. Who

Took any notice of ‘em?” “Who knows how many we got?”

Ralph took a step forward

“I told you to. I told you to get a list of names!”

-“How could I with them little ‘uns running round like insects?...

“That’s enough!” Said Ralph sharply, and snatched back

the conch. “If you didn’t you didn’t.”

-A tree exploded in the fire like a bomb. Tall swathes of

Creepers rose for a moment into view, agonized, and went

Down again. The little boys screamed at them.-

“That little ‘un that had a mark on his face-where is-

he now? I tell you I don’t see him.”...
