The Transition from Old Traditional To a Modern Family

Family is a group consisting of parents and children, and more families establishing a society, therefore whatever happens in society is also influence to its individual. We can now observe how immigrants’ children are rapidly transit to a new lifestyle called a modern society. Generations who were born or grow up in the U.S. have different point of views, lifestyle, and behavior have led to a big gap between immigrants and U.S born.

Nowadays, immigrants often view a society with a sense of physically comfort on their last few years of life. However, the concern about a new generation has raised. They believed that children no longer respect toward the elders. According to Mr.Kwon,”Young people say they are so smart, but what is the point of knowledge if you don’t know how to behave” (Bean Paste vs. Miniskirts: Generation Gap Grows by Nicholas D. Kristof). The older generation is victim to the changing times. It is difficult for them to accept the facts that are not living in their time period. Especially, Asian children grew up have taught to believe that the elders very important person to their life because most of them were raised and support by their parents for life even when the children get married. Most of the children depended everything on parent. On the other hand, children that grew up in the US are more independent. Therefore, they have less interaction with their parent and resulting in misbehavior.

When living in a modern society people realized that they have more independent. However, elders feel that their old world has been taken away from them, they're unable to participate or contribute their thought, therefore they become inflexible, not like how they used to be before in the old days.“ Older people in our society are sometimes viewed as a nuisance and not valued for the wonderful people they are”(Elderly people are the Backbone of modern society by Angels Web).
