Perform a critical analysis of each reading using critical thinking techniques from this week’s readings.

Respond to the following based on your critical thinking analysis of the “Common Core” and “The Battle Against Common Core Standards” readings.

1) Define the term conclusion.

The definition of conclusion is, “In an argument, the claim for which a premise is supposed to

give a reason,” (Moore & Parker, 2012). |

2) What is the conclusion of each article?

1.The conclusion in the article Common Core in the Tribune Business News has supporters of

common core fighting to keep the standards. The supporters state that military families |

deal with varying standards from state to state and also attract the better workforce. |

The people against common core feel that they have been doing great business for the |

past 20 years so things should not change. They want to write their own version of |

common core. |

2. In the article, “The Battle Against Common Core Standards”, the state of Michigan |

would like to take back control of the education curriculum. They feel changing it will not |

guarantee that the children will learn any more then they are learning from what they |

are being taught now. |

3) Define the term premises.

The definition for premises is, “The claim or claims in an argument that provide the reasons for

believing the conclusion,” (Moore & Parker, 2012). |
