Problem Statement

New standards have been set by our quality control supervisor. We have just turned in a completed order but it gets rejected and is sent back to be reworked with the new standards implemented. As the team urges her to let the order be shipped and they will implement the new policy with the new orders they work. This imposes issues with the resources and budgets set in place for the year.

Situation Analysis

The main point of conflict is that the team leader and the quality control supervisor are not seeing eye to eye regarding the completed order and the new standards. The quality control supervisor is requesting that the filled order be reworked because it does not pass the new standards. If the team reworks this order we can lose valuable time and use up more of our budget than we have set aside for this order. How can this be resolved?

There are many different possible solutions with many different outcomes. Does the team just go ahead and fix the order without regards to the budget and materials or do they try to make a compromise with the supervisor? What would the consequences of each solution be like? What solution gives the best outcome with minimal disadvantages? The team leader wants to do as told but at the best interest of the company and so does the quality control supervisor.

Alternative Solutions

1. You can calm down, issue instructions to rework the order, and do the best you can with the budgeting and scheduling problems.

2. You can email the supervisor and outline the cost considerations and ask her to help find a solution.

3. You ask for the quality control supervisor to meet with you to discuss the situation further at her earliest convenience.

4. You can go to the plant manager who you both report to, point out the issues with the budgeting and scheduling system, and...
