The cinematic film Platoon was filmed on the island of Luzon in the Philippines between March and May of 1986. It was directed and written by Oliver Stone, a three-time Academy Award winning film director and screenwriter. The film was produced by Arnold Kopelson, an Academy Award-winning American film producer. The production of “Platoon” on a secheduled rate was almost canceled due to a political conflict because of then-dictator Ferdinand Marcos. But thanks to Mark Hill, a well known producer in asia, the filming went on the scheduled times.

Music Production was done by Georges Delerue, and Emy Award winning French film composer who composed over 350 scores for cinema and television. The piece playe throughout the film, or also known as “Platoon’s” theme is “Adagio for Strings” by Samuel Barber. This was Barber’s first quartet and by far his most famous piece.

The story line of “Platoon” is based off of Stone’s (director’s) experience as an infantryman in Vietnam. The film was written upon Stone’s return as a counter to the ideas in John Waynes’s “The Green Berets”. Oliver Stone has made three films on Vietnam: Platoon, Born on the Forth of July, and Heaven and Earth. He has stated that he sees these three productions as a trilogy because they deal with three different asspects of the war.

Platoon is a character driven movie, thus it has many main characters to its plot. One of the major actors that added to this film was Charlie sheen. Charles Sheen is a Golden Globe Award-winning and Emmy-nominated American actor. He is perhaps best known for his roles as Chris Taylor in the Vietnam War drama Platoon. Tom Berenger plays the ruthless Staff Sergeant Robert Barnes, a determined platoon sergant.
