Pieces that I found interesting while at the museum
I have been to the museum many times over the years and I have been an employee of the CMA since it went under construction in 2006. I have had the opportunity to extensively visit their special exhibitions such as Monet, Arms and Armor, Modern Masters, Paul Gauguin as often as I wanted because I was an employee. But what I like most about the museum is the general collection. This is because we are exposed to art of all different time periods and genres all together. I like being able to see the art of my ancestors: the Ancient Egyptians and then go into another room and see the armor court filled with armor from Austria and other countries, and then go into another room and see American art from the 1900’s. A combination of being exposed to all these collections in the same place is what I cherish about the museum.
The Ancient Egyptian Art collection was very interesting to me. I really liked seeing all of the sculptures of pharos and their queens. It was so amazing to me that art work from thousands of years ago could last till now and still be in very good condition. I really liked a lot of the jars that they had they were all in excellent condition and the paintings on them look vivid and very detailed. The museum also had some of the weapons used by the Ancient Egyptians. This included daggers knives and shields. It was interesting to see how the ancients defended themselves from the Romans and other territories. The chariots that were on display were intriguing too; I can imagine Egyptian warriors riding in them during battle. All of their warrior equipment just seems to be way after their time, it is incredible that they developed such complex mechanisms and had the ability to make them out of the simple tools and technology that they possessed way back then.
