Dream, a Mystery in Nature
Dreams? It is said to be a hallucinatory experience during that occurs during sleep by the Encyclopædia Brittanica. Dreams made many scientists, experts, and even a common individual fascinated about the wonders it offer. It was also described that each dream is “a personal document, or a letter to oneself.”
They were described by Freud as “the royal road to knowledge of activities of the unconscious mind”. He also offered a theoretical explanation for the bizarre nature of dreams, invented a system for their interpretation, and elaborated on their curative potential. However, on the other hand, Carl Jung represented a continuous 24-hour flow of mental could affect waking life when one's behavior denied important elements of one's true personality.
Because of the vast debates about dreams, many research laboratories have conducted experimental observations. Researchers at the University of Chicago's Sleep Research Laboratory observed the Rapid Eye Movement. Rapid Eye Movement was characterized by a burst of rapid eye movement under their lids and a change in the brain waves represented by electroencephalography that resembles to someone who’s an alert waking person. People under the stage of the rapid eye movement was reported to describe 20 out of 27 vivid dreams compared to people under non-rapid eye movement that only reported 3 out of 23.
Nonetheless, manifestations like night terrors, nightmares, and sleepwalking were found unrelated to dreaming. Night terrors were described by abrupt awakening while nightmares are characterized by abrupt awakening, feeling of helplessness, and fearful or threatening thoughts. Sleepwalking was defined rise and walk from their beds, open eyes, usually avoiding obstacles, and doesn’t recall any of the incident later. These phenomenon were mostly observed in three to ten percent of children ranging from four to 14 years old.
