In 2006 the world was introduced to the Nintendo’s next “hot” item, the Wii. The Wii is designed to be suitable for all ages, mostly targeting the younger/newer generations. The Wii consists of a remote, and num-chuck controllers. These num-chuck controllers contain new gaming technology, in which they are a pointing device with three axis accelerometer. The Wii’s compact, slick design allows to be an addition to any TV set. The Wii itself is 8.5 inches long, 6 inches wide, and less than 2 inches thick. In addition the Wii can also connect the internet via wireless. Two cutting edge processors are what drive this fan craved machine. For those who like photos, or music, the Wii is capable of allowing ones to view slides shows of photos on the TV, and listen to MP3 as well. The important thing to know is that during game play of the Wii, users actually feel they are apart of the game, and this is due to the intense graphics and one on one interaction with the game itself.

Marketing is an important tool for success. The Nintendo corporation has shown how advertisement can lead to such great success. They have several commercials with catchy tunes, to attract viewers. In these commercials people can see how much fun a person can have with this device. The Wii has also been seen in many gaming magazines. Probably the second most affective tool used to advertise the wii, is allowing people to demo the console. Such examples of this can be found in the electronic sections of retail stores such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, and etc. These advertising leads and drives the success for profits of the Wii.

When the Nintendo Wii was first introduced, the demand curve had a large shift to the right, but when competitors such as Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s XBOX 360, the demand curve showed a shift to the left.
