Employee Selection

Introduction

This study compares and contrasts three business research papers as to describe how the researchers defined and operationalized variables while providing a theoretical framework. The subjects of this research are three business research papers the first one is Evidence of Back-Home Selection Bias against Us Female Expatriates, the second is Fairness in the Selection of Employees, and the third is Use of Psychological Tests in the Selection and Promotion of Federal Employees: Statement of Position ( Ives, Margaret, 2014)

This study will basically compare and contrast the three basic features that should be incorporated in any theoretical framework: the variables the conceptual model that describes the relationships between the variables in the paper, and explanation for those relationship. (Bougie, Uma Sekaran and Roger, 2010)

Define the problem:

The first research paper Evidence of Back-Home Selection Bias against Us Female Expatriates explained the problem in the abstract and the introduction “The US managers suggest a possible unfounded selection bias against US women and an unnecessary career obstacle” (Paik, 2002) then explained the method the survey and the number of people examined in this survey. It gave some numbers in tables for more details to identify the problem and provide a conceptual models to help readers visualize the relationship between variables. Table 1 shows an example of Demographic information in USA, Mexico, Germany, Korea and provide the Total for each category.

On the other hand, the second article (Arvey, R. D., & Renz, G. L, 2014) discussed another problem about selecting employees which is fairness, the author mentioned that the process of selecting the employees is not fair in many cases “Although we choose to focus on fairness, it should be noted that fairness is but one facet of business ethics.
