When I looked myself up, I found that the were many people with the same name like me.

I would not share my passwords with my employer. I think any body has the right

Doing a cursory Google search for myself, I found an old picture posted on ReverbNation and some old songs I posted on SoundCloud.

I would say the biggest step in cleaning up and maintaining your online reputation would be limiting the amount of personal information being shared. Also understanding and utilizing each sites privacy policy and settings is a key factor.

I would defnitely not share any passwords with an employer. Sharing a password defeats the purpose of even having one. It would potentially open yourself to those of malicious intent. Unless it was an integral part of my job, I wouldn't use personal socal media accounts for business purposes.

As a blanket statement, I don't believe employers should be allowed to monitor employees online activities away from the job. However, anyone using company resources to access their personal accounts should be dealt with according to company policy. Another caveat to my statement is anyone who is a prominent figure or face of an institution should be held to higher scrutiny with their personal social media. The CFO and teacher cited in the study are perfect examples. A CFO making disparaging remarks can hurt a brand name or possibly manipulate the stock market. A teacher insulting a student in a public forum could possibly damage the child socially or even psychologically and tarnish their own reputation in the process.
