Crime Data Comparison

In 1929, the International Association of Police Chiefs decided that they were in need for something more reliable, uniform crime statistics. Then in 1930 the FBI was given the task of collecting data, publishing, and archiving crime statistics and eventually these reports would become known as the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Program. This data is collected from over 17,000 cities and law enforcement agencies that voluntarily submit their data on crimes that are being reported in their areas. I have chosen two metropolitan areas one of them being Miami, FL where I was born and raised and Pensacola, FL where currently have been residing in for the last three in a half years.

I will begin by discussing my hometown which is Miami, Fl. In 2013 Miami had a population of 5,845,679 and in 2014 the population went up to 5,938,747. Due to the increase of population the total of crimes being committed have increased. In 2013 violent crimes were at 538.9, and the aggravated assaults rates were at 311.9. In 2014 the rates increased to 595.2 in violent crimes and 362.7. Most of the crimes occurring in the City of Miami. Between 2013 and 2014 the rates increased for both violent crimes and aggravated assaults and as the years pass I truly believe they will continue to increase.

I chose Pensacola, FL not only because I reside here now but because I never have taken the time to actually look at the crime rates. Although it may seem like it’s a very small city where nothing ever seems to occur. I believe that Pensacola has a huge problem when it comes to drugs and alcohol. Pensacola, FL in 2013 had a population of 455,427 and in 2014 there was a population of 474,766. When it comes to violent crime the rate for 2013 was at 510.0 and the aggravated assault rate was 363.4. In 2014 the rates increased the violent crime rate was at 672.8 and the aggravated assault was at 495.6.

On both of these...
