We all say that one day the unthinkable will be possible, well with the thought of being able to 3D print new organs from stem cells upon us, I guess that day has come. I see this being a huge advantage to anyone at risk of losing a much-needed organ. My Uncle needed a kidney transplant many years ago and my father luckily was able to be his donor. They said the life of the kidney was about ten years; well it’s been nine and a half now so we are all starting to worry. It would incredible if my uncle could just print off a new kidney. Needless to say I’m a little bias, I see the need and the damage it could do to a family losing a loved one. However do I see some issues that could arise? Of course, Insurance companies it seems are always claiming to not cover some of the newest health advances, so would it only be available to those who could pay those large amounts it would cost out of pocket? If it could be made affordable to everyone it would be an amazing thing. I do worry of course that then people would abuse their bodies because they can go ahead and get anything new they needed just printed off. To me it’s a toss up; I would say if it could save lives it should happen. That’s what the medical field is all about, bettering lives, and then from there it is their choice if they do their part in keeping themselves healthy.
