What are people’s perspectives on carrying handguns on universities?

Recently in some states they have passed a law that allows students to carry concealed hand guns on college campuses. There are many opinions regarding this law. Many are terrified about the fact of having “weapons” on their school campus mostly because they are dangerous. Others love the fact that they can finally carry their guns to protect themselves from predators who are lurking around to hurt them. So, what is a good answer to carrying concealed handguns if there is a good enough answer. In today’s society we will always have this debate simply because of the shootings that have occurred.

In the article, “Universities Presidents’ Perceptions and Practice Regarding the Carrying of Concealed Handguns on College Campuses” Dr. Price does a study over how students feel about concealed handguns being carried on university campuses. “The results of this study help confirm that the various components of the campus communities do not not believe that there is any place for firearms on college campuses.” (Price 468) After he conducted this research he found out that the students did not think concealed handguns should be carried on their campus along with any other campus. He then proceeded to ask the administrators and staff how they felt about it and they proceeded to say they as well felt very unsafe with concealed handguns being carried on campus.

This article was worth mentioning because it answered my research question. It gave me information about the way students felt over the new law passed about being able to carry concealed handguns on college campuses. I learned that although those who can carry concealed handguns have to have a license to carry them students still do not feel safe with people carrying them.
