For my art project the culture that I chose was the Egyptian culture. I chose this culture because it is an interest of mine. The Egyptian pyramids are a key part to their culture, but another key thing to their culture is the process of mummification. The mummification process is a lengthy process. There are three methods microscopy, dating, and chemical analyses. During the first method, microscopy, the specimen is examined at a low magnification with a Lecia MZ6 stereomicroscope (Jones). "Darkfield epi-illumination techniques require very strong

illumination but give an image with brilliant contrast well-suited to very high quality colour photography (Jones)." Also during this process no heat damage is done, but there is a disadvantage that there is virtually and limited uncontrollable depth of field (Jones). "A rotatable sector stop in the light path will reduce the intensity but promote the possibility of adding controlled relief to the image (Jones)." During the second method, dating, specimens are taken to a special place to be determined how old they are (Jones). Once they arrive to this place they are cleaned with a "dilute acid wash, rinsed, and dried (Jones)." For the final method, chemical analyses, " the amorphous organic residues are chemically characterized (Jones)." After all these methods have been gone through they can start wrapping the specimen.

I chose this culture because I enjoy learning about the ancient pyramids and about the mummies. The overall design of my piece is suppose to kind of replicate a mummy. The symbolism in my piece symbolizes the Egyptian culture. I used air dry clay to make the mummy itself, and then I wrapped it in white sports tape. I do not know what my piece is...
