1. How does the urinary system relate to sexual function in males? How does the prostate relate to the bladder infections in males?

The prostate relates to the bladder infections in males because if a male has inlarged prostate it is putting pressure on the urethra and make urination difficult and incomplete emptying of bladder which can cause bacteria to build up and cause infection. The urinary system is related to sexual function in male because the prostate has fluid that mixes with sperm to make semen and the prostate is part of the urinary system.

2. On Frank’s follow up examination, what are some of the alarming symptoms and concerns he has?

Some alarming symptoms Frank is having is difficulty urinating, the loss of 11 pounds in five weeks, and the abnormal prostate. His concern on medication not working and having painful ejaculations could be a sign of a problem with prostate.

3. What possible conditions/complications could be causing Frank’s symptoms? What does a negative leukocyte and nitrite urinalysis test strip results rule out?

Frank could have a enlarged prostate. Frank could also have prostate cancer. A negative leukocyte and nitrite result rules out urinary tract infection.

4. What is a digital rectal examination (DRE) and what insight does it provide into Frank’s condition?

A digital rectal examination is when the provider uses fingers (digits) to physically feel the prostate for lumps, nodules or swelling. This was abnormal so this tells us he may have lumps and nodules or swelling in the prostate.

5. There are two possible conditions that Frank has, what are they and the complications of them?
