An oil spill is the accidental petroleum release into the environment. Oil spills can pollute large areas and has the ability to kill anything that comes in contact with it, such as fish, birds, and plants. Oil companies such as BP, Shell and drilling contractors that operate in our oceans around the world, are the companies that are making these types of global threats. Oil spills happen when companies, such as BP make mistakes that cause oil tankers to leak oil into the ocean. The Bp oil spill poured into the Gulf of Mexico, dumping over 200 million gallons of oil into the ecosystem, which lasted for 86 days, because troops were having trouble finding exactly where the leak was coming from. While the oil spill was steadily spewing in to the Gulf of Mexico, CEO of Bp Tony Hayward was going on various vacations, which was a big problem, because it was though he did not care what was happening to the ecosystem. Being that he was not doing his job as the CEO of the oil company that caused this huge oil spill, he got so much bad publicity that eventually he stepped down from his position as CEO.

The dilemmas surrounding the issue that local communities must deal with are the cost of paying more for fuel. The fuel is used to heat our homes, and fuel that is used for our vehicles for transportation, and fuel that is used for machinery that some people need for their jobs, such as farming equipment. The price of fuel rose from $2.79 to $3.09, due to oil companies trying to compensate for the oil that was lost in the spill and the monies used to stop the leak.

I don’t think this was at all a moral matter, because I hope no one will purposely spill crude oil into the ocean, knowing the damage it will cause to the environment. Since the CEO of BP acted the way he did, it may have been purposely done so that they can raise the prices of oil, which will be good for them, but definitely bad for us that really need this oil on a day to day basis....
