Home Security System Components:
In planning on installing a home alarm in either yourself or professionally, it is important that having enough knowledge in the components that make up a complete home security system.
A home security system is made up of four separate groups.
1. Alarm System Control – "the Brain"
2. Alarm System Keypad – "the Heart"
3. Alarm System Detection Device – "the Eyes and Ears"
4. Alarm System Siren – "the Attention Getter"
Having these four grouped together as a single component, thereby forming a complete home security system.
The Control or Control Panel
It is the Brain of the home alarm security. Control Panel is where all the information for the alarm system and its operation are stored. This is usually installed in an area that is hidden.
3 types of home alarm Control Panels:
1. Hardwired – type of control that requires all keypads and detection devices be wired directly to the panel
Advantages: low cost and almost no owner required maintenance
Disadvantages: in a finished home you are limited to your security option
2. Self contained wireless – requires minimum of two wires to be operational (power and phone) all detection devices send signal via radio frequency.
Advantages: ease of installation, very little wiring. Devices can usually be relocated to fit into home redecoration and remodeling
Disadvantages: higher up front cost. It requires regular maintenance for battery replacement in devices. It is vulnerable to damage by being out in the open.
3. Hybrid – the best of both, it is a combination of hardwired and wireless detection devices.
Advantages: lower cost, extremely versatile.
Disadvantages: requires some owner maintenance when wireless devices are used.
