The Comparison of the Lottery and Cast of Amontillado

Edgar Allan Poe and William Faulkner who are both prize-winning American authors and poets, which wrote some of the most memorable short stories, novels, and poems. They both have an excellent writing style focusing these stories on death, mystery, revenage and of course murder. This paper compares “The Lottery” written by Shirley Jackson and “The Cask of Amontillado” written by Edgar Allan Poe. Both stores are from different time periods but are similar. Each story tells of the killing or stoning of an individual. One being stone to death and the other enclosed in stone or bricks. Both victims were yelling at the time of their death. In The Lottery, no one would listen and in The Cask of Amontillado, no one could hear him. The story of Cask of Amontillado begins with Montresor plotting to kill Fortunato. Montresor is the narrator as well as the murderer. Fortunato is a wine seller as well as the victim. He believes his friend Fortunato has wrong him too many times but this was the last straw. He believes that he has been insulted by Fortunato. Montresor intends to kill Fortunato but does not tells him. Montresor meets Fortunato at a carnival. Fortunato, who is very drunk, is dressed as a Jester. He has on the attire of a jester, the hat and the outfit.

He lures Fortunato to his home to taste wine which Fortunato is knowledgeable about. Montresor has a very large home, which been the family a very long time, and servants are away. So no one is there to witness the murder. Montresor takes Fortunato down a long tunnel in his home. He pretended the...
