Voice conveys mood and emotions of a person. Tone of voice is the quality of the person’s voice. Tone may differ for every person and it also differs for the same person.

• Tone of voice has the ability to change the meaning of the words by increasing volume, pitch when uttering a word.

• Tone of voice differs when a person is in different feeling or emotion such as when a person is scared tone of voice is like shivering.

• When a person is anxious, tone of voice will be louder in volume.

• When a person is exited, tone of voice will be loud and bold.

• When a person is worried and depressed, tone of voice will be low in volume and unhappy tone.

• Listeners can understand the speaker’s emotions and meaning of the sentence more effectively using tone of voice.

Examples of same words said in different ways have different meanings:

Same sentence can have multiple meaning depending on which word is emphasized.

• When a project manager says his team members to “submit the project this week”, this sentence is gentle and asking team members to submit the project. The same sentence “submit the project this week” stressing the word “submit” means the project manager is ordering his team members, then the entire meaning of the situation changes.

• When a project manager says his team members “project is success” in ordinary tone, the manager is not much exited. When the manager says “project is success”, then the entire meaning of the situation changes. This implies the manager is excited and happy to inform his team members.

Body language is another way of communicating a message. It includes facial expression, eye contact, gestures with hands, and way of sitting or standing.

• Different sign of body language indicates different meaning.

• Body language communication is easy to understand how a person feels in that place or in a situation.

• Frequent eye contact between two persons when speaking to each other, indicates that the person is listening to...
