“Christmas Day” 1

I sat up sharply as I began to remember now that it was indeed Christmas Day. The smell of hot banana nut bread seeped into my warm bedroom as I began to wake up from a deep, peaceful sleep. The crystal-clear icicles hanging off the gutter outside were dripping, and the intricate design of leftover frost on the window blurred up the scenery of our front yard. I could see just enough to notice the fluffy snow floating down lightly from the feathery sky, creating dusty clouds of white beauty on the old, green pine trees. The mouth-watering smell from downstairs was beginning to change, enticing me to come, and the bread mixed with the aroma of frosted sugar cookies began to grab my attention heavily. I could hear a loud clatter downstairs as a result of my mother pulling out pots and pans and getting ready for what was going to be an exciting, yet demanding day.

I crept silently down the creaky staircase, which was bedazzled with white pine decorations and glittery holiday ornaments. The green Christmas tree in the living room cheerfully sparkled with lights and flashy gold tinsel. There was an enchanting and traditional atmosphere floating in the air; it gave me a homelike, comfortable, and vivid feeling that was all too familiar. The pretty, colorful presents sitting under the tree were wildly gleaming at me, and I could not contain myself any longer. I deliriously bolted the rest of the way downstairs and became fascinated upon entering the warm living room and allowed my eyes time to take in the wide array of enormous gifts. My little sister had unfortunately beat me to the presents first and was tearing through the lovely wrapping paper, that had been so meticulously wrapped with care, as if it was the end of the world.
