Brain Flow Questions

Destruction of the premotor cortex, or part of it, results in loss of the motor skill(s) programmed by that region, but does not impair muscle strength and the ability to perform the discrete individual movements; therefore, damaging the premotor cortex would hamper the ability to move effectively in contrast to before the damage. You could possibly need to go through a period of rehabilitation, in which your brain would reprogram the movement or skill into another set of premotor neurons.

Outline: Hearing a dripping faucet in the middle of the night.

Stimuli: Dripping faucet

Sensory receptor(s): The sound of the dripping faucet would come in through the sensory receptors in the ears.

Somatosensory Cortex: Areas that could be active include the uppermost (superior) portion of the primary somatosensory cortex which includes the control of the feet, leg, head, arms, elbows, hands, etc., because the person may be lying in bed and the brain may be processing the touch sense of the bed sheets or pillow. The ability of spatial discrimination of the somatosensory cortex would also allow the person to identify the site of the stimulation (which would be the ears).

Association Cortex: The association areas would allow the brain to perceive the location from which the sound is coming from and associate that to whether the water is dripping from the bathroom sink or the kitchen sink. The somatosensory cortex draws upon stored memories of past sensory experiences to perceive the sounds the person hears as water dripping from a faucet. The auditory association areas also plays a role in the perception of the sound stimulus. Memories of sounds heard in the past appear to be stored in the auditory association area for reference of what the sound is.

Multimodal Assoc. Cortex: The Multimodal association areas would receive the information from the sensory association cortex, which tells the person that water is dripping from the faucet, and...
