Do Movies + Shows = Bad Reviews?

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a cartoon done by Nickelodeon. The first episode aired on February 21st 2005 and the last episode, which is 2 hours long, was transmitted on July 19th 2008. Its main producers were Michael Dante di Martino and Bryan Konietz. The TV show is placed in an Asian southeastern world where people have the ability of controlling the classical elements that represent each nation. Using telekinesis techniques involved in Chinese martial arts. Each element represents a nation. The story is based on Aang a 12 year-old boy airbender destined to be the avatar. He has to remain as an arbiter to put all nations at peace. He also possesses the ability to bend all 4 elements at once. Through the series Aang has to bring unity and harmony by ending the fire lord’s warfare against all three nations.

Based on the first season of the show there was a movie titled The Last Airbender, directed by M. Night Shayamalan. It was produced by Nickelodeon movies and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Although the movie was built on the TV show, the movie had many flaws as to imitating the character’s appearance, performance, bending and plot of the show. This made some viewers confused because they expected the film to be the same as the cartoon.

It is understandable that the movie was so disorganized, because they tried to tie up 400 minutes of the series into a 1 hour and 43 minutes long movie. But even so this does not justify the huge derangement of the events. The fact that the director wants to pass from one episode to another without any pauses makes it confusing, because it’s hard to understand the consequences and the causes of each event. One example of this can be the fact that the beginning of the movie starts with the first episode, which is when Katara and Soka find Aang....
