Network Security Check list

1. Check Operating System and Server to see if there default logins and passwords have be changed on all servers and workstations.

2. Set the routers access list (ACL). This is not set as default

3. Firewall must be configured to block threats.by default firewalls only block the most common type of threats.

4. Make sure the network is using a Proxy service along side of the Firewall.

5. A Scanning tool should be used. A Scanning Tool is a simple and reliable way to discover crucial information about the network. Scanning Tools improve security by pointing out insecure ports, software that must be patched, and permissions that should be restricted and so on and so forth.

6. Ensure that authorized users have appropriate access to resources needed. No more and no less for all employees of the credit union.

7. Prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to the network, system, program, and data.

8. Protect sensitive data from unauthorized access, both from within and outside the organization.

9. Prevent accidental damage to hardware and software.

10. Prevent intentional damage to hardware and software.

Entry points Security Risk

* The T1 link that connects the East Office can have some potential physical security issues. Devices such as firewall, router, multiplexer, and switch could suffer if any accidental damage or otherwise is done to the cable.

* If Routers are not properly configured to mask internal subnets, users on the outside networks (such as the Internet) can read private addresses.

* Computers hosting very sensitive data might coexist on the same subnet with computers open to the general public.

* Access Servers used by remote users might not be carefully secured and monitor.

* Passwords for switches, routers, and other devices might not be sufficiently difficult to guess, changed frequently, or worse, might be left to default value.
