What decision making style is most prevalent a hospital organization?

The most common decision making style in hospitals is the autocratic decision making style. Autocratic decision making is when the leader maintains total control and ownership of the decision. The leader is also completely responsible for the good or bad outcome as a result of the decision. The leader does not ask for any suggestions or ideas from outside sources and decides from ones own internal information and perception of the situation. The main reason why this style would most probably be accepted in hospitals is that it leads to fast decisions. Fast decision making is required in hospitals especially during emergencies.

What tools and techniques are commonly used to make decisions in a hospital?

In hospitals the basis steps of decision making that is defining the situation, generating alternatives; information gathering, selection and action are taken. However, the most common methods of decision making are to recognize the decision situation and apply decisions made previously under similar situations. For instance, prior to an operation, the anesthetist will define the operation that has to be performed, the alternative drugs that the anesthetist may use during the operation, then the anesthetist checks the vital signs of patient and continually gathers information about the condition of the patient, the anesthetist selects a method of anesthesia that has worked well with a patient with similar sign and then takes action.
