Dear Old Master,

I have escaped from the plantation, as you may have noticed. I’m flattered that you remembered me and offered me to come back to live with you, promising to treat me better. I have felt very uncomfortable with you. I mean you did shoot at me 5 times before I left. Although that place brings me horrid memories, I’ll miss the fellow slaves I met there, many of them I call family. A part of me felt missing without my children and husband. They have been living the life of a freed slave while I have been trapped and taking away from them. I haven’t seen them in 15 years, until now. I have seen that you made wanted posters of me and the reward is $500. I see you did not think I was worth anything. I have blisters on my back from the whippings I got from you. Every night you would come in where I sleep and rape me. I have had 4 miscarriages during the time I was with you. I was very depressed, and had often thoughts of suicide. Now I am in fact living quite well, so I will obviously not be returning to you. I am now with my family and where I want to be. I eat more often than I did when I was there. My first meal I ate when I got back my husband didn’t think I ever ate. I was so hungry and cold living with you at the plantation. I didn’t get as much love there as I do here. I love my family and plan to be with them until my sunset. My two children, Tamar and Braxton, are now grown-up. Tamar is now a beautiful young woman who is only 18 years old, while Braxton is a strong young man who is 22 years old. I missed out on most of their life because of the years I spent with you but I plan on making them up. You gave me nothing but pain and sorrow, for that I wish you well. Although this was a horrible experience, I learned from it. I witnessed slaves getting whipped and killed because they did not obey. I learned that in this generation I live in, love is limited. I will cherish my family now that I get to be with them. I hope one day karma will strike you...
